MATCH PREVIEW | Giants next up for Scholars
Leeds Rhinos Under-16s have the opportunity to get back to winning ways on Wednesday night as Simon Brown's side take on Huddersfield Giants Under-16s at Laund Hill, kick off 7pm.
Despite recent results against Leigh and Hull not going in their favour, Brown has been unafraid to give plenty of opportunities to members of his 39-player squad. Only 11 players are yet to feature as the season approaches the halfway mark as the clash against Leigh saw Lewis Kilner, Charlie Medley and Thai Hazelwood make their first appearances in blue and amber. First-year players Oliver Brown and Laike Smith have been involved in all three games so far for Brown, as has second year players Dylan Baira, Jordan Barker-Day, Henry Brough, Oscar Brown, Archie Butler, Joe Gill, Wade Smith and Toby Wieland who are amongst the players aiming for Academy contracts at the end of the season.
Brough has been a shining light with a try and four goals so far, whilst Stan Marriott and Dexter Cooper both opened their scoring accounts for the season last time out against the Leopards.
This week's clash with the Giants sets the side up for a meeting with Wakefield next up, before a two-month break sees the side return to action at the end of June with an away trip to Wigan.
The Giants prevented a perfect start to Leeds' 2025 season with 24-16 win against the Rhinos in the fourth round of the Scholarship campaign. 2026 has been a similar story for Chris Cullimore's side, who opened the campaign with a 40-22 win over Castleford before accumulating a 56-24 score on Wakefield Trinity at the start of April.
A close 30-24 loss at the hands of Hull FC last time out sees the Giants try to get back to winning ways when they host the Rhinos before travelling to Hull KR at the end of the month.
